Chutney is to India what ketchup is to America, a forever present condiment that can be eaten at every meal. The flavors, of course, are much different than ketchup. First off, there’s no tomato at all. Royal Plum Chutney contains plums, dates, figs, raisins, mango, salt, red pepper, and spices. Holy sweetness.
The luscious and deep flavor that comes from these fruits is in marked contrast to the usually one dimensional flavor of ketchup. Further, although not listed specifically, curry is a strong element as well.
For our taste test, we used a very American sauce apparatus – the chicken nugget.
Royal Plum Chutney perks up boring chicken nuggets splendidly. Parents be warned, there is a spicy kick on the finish as well as a pronounced curry flavor (as mentioned previously), so while this may not be perfect for kids, parents will definitely appreciate the change of pace on chicken nuggets. Royal Plum Chutney would also work well on barbecued chicken or pork chops.
While not for all kids, my daughter loved the chutney as you can see in the picture below.
