[Lemonade Day Detroit] The Root Blackberry Lemonade

We asked The Root’s Executive Chef James Rigato what kind of lemonade he suggests for Lemonade Day (and any nice summer day, of course).  He recommends a refreshing blackberry lemonade using a home made syrup.

[Lemonade Day Detroit] The Root Blackberry Lemonade
Recipe type: Beverage
  • 1 pint Blackberries
  • ½ Cup Sugar
  • ½ Cup Water
  • 3 ½ cups Lemon Juice
  • 1 ½ cups Simple Syrup (equal parts white granulated sugar & water)
  • 7 cups Water
  1. For the Blackberry Syrup (2 cups) - Combine the blackberries, sugar and water in a stove top pot. Cook on low to medium heat until soft. Puree with a stick blender. Strain through fine mesh sieve.
  2. For the Lemonade (3 quarts) - Muddle about 7 leaves per glass of mint, or to taste. Stir together the lemon juice, simple syrup and water. Mix together with the blackberry syrup in large pitcher. Leave mint in lemonade.
  3. Enjoy.
