National Hot Dog Day

Coney and Chicago Style Hot Dogs

July 23rd is National Hot Dog Day.  A favorite among kids and adults alike, hot dogs are one of the United States most popular foods.  Here in Detroit our claim to fame is the Coney dog, a natural casing frank topped with chili, onions, and mustard. Whether your favorite place is Duly’s, American Coney Island, Lafayette, National or any of the other thousands of coney islands statewide, chances are you’ve tasted this iconic meal in a bun.

Hot dog on steroids

It’s not often the words artisanal and house made are used to describe a hot dog, but you would also expect nothing short of that from The Forest Grill.  Chef David Gilbert’s sweetbread and foie gras hot dog is easily the most luxurious available in the metro Detroit area.  Topped with pork belly, cornichons, house made mustard, cabbage, and chives, it is nothing short of spectacular.  Usually available in very limited quantities at the bar only.
