Granola. Once shunned to the health section of grocery stores, granola is squarely featured in the cereal aisle now. Though it is a healthier option than say toaster pastries, most granola is still laden with sweeteners and other undesirable extras that should go no where near your mouth.
Simply Suzanne Sweet and Savory granola is a Michigan based product that prides itself on being all natural. Aside from that, it tastes really good. Rather than using high fructose corn syrup, Suzanne uses maple syrup and brown sugar but this granola is by no means cloyingly sweet. The addition of black pepper – yes, black pepper – adds a satisfying heat that I swear stuck with me for a good 30 minutes after eating. It’s not spicy by any means, just memorable.
Of course, Simply Suzanne granola is fantastic right out of the bag or on yogurt, but those methods of granola consumption are too conventional for me. Let’s give granola pancakes a shot (recipe can be found here).
Like any pancake recipe, mixing the dry ingredients together in one bowl and the wet in the other is mandatory. My daughter was up bright and early to help me make these. She is adding the granola to the other dry ingredients.
The pancakes turned out wonderfully. Using Very Cherry granola was especially tasty because of all of the yummy dried cherries in the granola. Keep in mind, there are tons of cherries in a bag – no skimping here.
