During springtime, we typically enjoy a warming of the weather and outdoor activities, however, this year we endured excess rain and cold cloudy days. Now that summer has officially begun, it’s time to rejoice and no better way to do that than a Summer Terrace Tasting at The Rattlesnake Club in Detroit. If you’ve never visited The Rattlesnake, you’re missing out on one of Detroit’s finest restaurants just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful River Walk along the Detroit River. Every couple of weeks you can sign up to sample delicious tasting food paired with exceptional cocktails. A couple weeks ago, we were invited to experience wines of Vintage Wine Company alongside perfectly grilled treats.
Playing in the background this evening were the Unusual Suspects
Artisan Cheese sprinkled with Almonds, Pecans & Pistachios, and Mediterranean Olives
Grilled Thai Spiced Sea Scallops with Peaches and Mango
Grilled Flatbread Pizza with Seasonal Vegetables & Feta Cheese
Vanilla Scented Pork Medallion with Dark Berry Molasses
We ended the evening with a very refreshing Mango-Pineapple Sorbet in Mini Cones however before we could capture the dessert; it began melting so we don’t have a picture to share with you. Throughout the evening we sampled a variety of white and red wines that paired extremely well with every dish we sampled. Even better, most of the wines we tried were versatile enough to pair with a variety of the grilled dishes served. The standout wine was the Ferrari-Carano “Belle Luce” Sonoma 2010. We also really enjoyed the smokiness of the Predator Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi 2009. Most of these wines are not sold in retail stores so if you want to experience them, you’ll need to sign up for one of the Summer Terrance Tastings. As an added bonus, you can order bottles or cases of any of the wines you sample.
