When we were initially contacted to be media partners for The Garden Party, we were honored. Not only is The Garden Party one of the summer’s swankiest events, but it benefits the Children’s Leukemia Foundation.
The atmosphere was both elegant and laid back. Some ladies wore hats (in some cases, REALLY big hats) while gentlemen were dressed well, too. Even if the dress was a little fancy, the attitude was definitely upbeat and jovial.
We had a fantastic time at the event strolling from table to table sampling food offerings and generous pours of wine (and even some delicious Peach Ginger tea). Most of all, we enjoyed meeting new people and talking with some of the area’s finest chefs. Of the 30 or so food offerings, we noticed a few standouts:
Moroccan Scallops with Spiced Couscous from Oakland Community College Culinary Studies Institute
Heirloom tomato bruschetta with stracchino cheese and extra virgin olive oil from Trattoria Stella
Crispy Duck with Foie Gras Taco from 24 Grille
Red Coat Burger from Red Coat Tavern
We’re already looking forward to next year’s event. If you’re on the fence about attending next year, remember that many of the dishes offered are not normally available on menu, so you’re trying dishes specially created for The Garden Party. Not only will you be helping a great cause, but you’ll be sampling food and wine that you might never try again – go mark your calendar for next June and make it a priority to attend The Garden Party.
